 Top Three Social Media Mistakes

  • Not checking your privacy settings
  • Not checking how you interact with people.  Once you put it out there, there’s no taking it back.
  • Over Engagement.  You don’t have to post EVERYTHING!

Favorite Bible Passage: 1 Peter 3:15
“sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence”

Spiritual Hack: Study the Bible with S.O.A.P

What is S.O.A.P.?
S.O.A.P. is an acronym (or is it acrostic?) that stands for Scripture, Observation, Application and Prayer.

How does it work?
When you read the Bible look for a verse or passage that leaps off the page. Dive  deeper using S.O.A.P.

Scripture – Write out, verbatim, the verse or passage that stuck out to you.
Observation – What do you observe about the scripture? What is going on? What is the context?
Application – How can you apply the observation so that it affects your life today.
Prayer – Write out a prayer asking God’s help to apply this in your life.

Below are recent personal SOAP notes from my time in the bible.  I was reading In 1 Corinthians, chapter 15.  Verse 58 really stuck out to me.

—————————-

Scripture
1 Corinthians 15:58 – “So my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable.  Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.”

Observation
Throughout this chapter, Paul is teaching the concept that we will have a new body after the Resurrection.  But, his focus is not on the the “type” of body we will have but on the eternal nature of that body.  He ends with the above verse encouraging them that because of this eternity, nothing done for God will be in vain.

Application
The attitude of eternity is key.  Even though my body will someday die, it will not be MY death; I will live forever.  Working for the Lord is working for eternal things.  It’s very difficult the maintain this attitude.  “Be Strong” is God’s message to me.

Prayer
God, reveal the concept of eternity to me.  I need a different attitude about about “work” and its eternal nature. Help me believe it then help me to teach it.
