Rock’n Out! with Above the Fall and Stryper’s Michael Sweet | Episode 43

Today we present the new and classic in Christian rock. First up, Above the Fall, an outstanding new band introducing their new project Rise and Fall.  Then at 18:55 in, Michael Sweet returns to talk about his just-released album with none other than Dokken’s George Lynch.

Above the Fall’s
Jesse Fryson and Zach MacGorman

Above The Fall originated in the fall of 2011 when founding members, Jesse Fryson and Zach MacGorman started writing music together. Over the course of the next few years, they had gone on to play shows in NJ, NY, PA, and DE, including a youth conference, with national recording artists, City Harbor, and headlining a benefit concert, which helped to raise upwards of $10,000 for a local pastor’s wife and mother of two young kids, who suffered a rare and nearly fatal stroke.

In May of 2014, Above The Fall had been invited to attend the Extreme Tour Objective Sessions in Nashville TN, where they met multi-Grammy and Dove nominated Producer, Billy Smiley. They were asked by Smiley to come to his studio to play some of their music for him, and to discuss the band’s future goals. Five months, two trips, and six songs later, Above The Fall put the finishing touches on their debut E.P. The band has entered into a management agreement with Smiley and a team of industry professionals to help them move forward in their career.

Now, with new music, new members, and a new live show, Above the Fall is set to make their official debut by Spring of 2015. From infusing rap into their songs to the guitar solos, from the drum battles to impromptu jam sessions, their unique live shows have set them apart from the rest. Some of their musical influences include: Switchfoot, Foo Fighters, Tenth Avenue North, Jars Of Clay, and Shinedown. Above The Fall is ready to take their music to the next level.

At 18:55 in, Michael Sweet returns and talks about his new album “Only to Rise” with Dokken’s George Lynch.  Michael first appeared on On Faith’s Edge in episode 16 at

SWEET & LYNCH is a brand new band centered around the talents of guitarist/vocalist Michael Sweet of  Christian hard rockers STRYPER and iconic guitarist George Lynch (LYNCH MOB, ex DOKKEN) along with bassist James Lomenzo (ex MEGADETH, WHITE LION, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY) and drummer Brian Tichy (ex WHITESNAKE).

“It’s an incredible combination of classic 70’s and 80’s”, tells Michael Sweet. “You will hear some flavors of Journey, Bad Company, Dokken, Van Halen and Stryper. James and Brian are amazing musicians. They tore it up. The drums and bass are just as impressive as the guitars. Everybody really delivered… The musicianship level on this is top notch. It sounds as if we were all in the studio playing together and we were not. Basically, George wrote some riffs about a minute to a minute and a half long. I wrote lyrics and melodies then arranged them. Then Brian and James came out and tracked the drums and bass, as well as some rhythm stuff. We then sent it back to George to add the guitars.”

The combination of Sweet’s powerful, crystal clear vocals and Lynch’s unmatched guitar tone, provide the force and drive that the album needed. The result is truly a “state of the art” Hard Rock album, with fabulous melodies played to perfection.
