Philippians 1:6 (NASB)
“For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus”
Danny Gokey
Singer ∙ Songwriter ∙ American Idol Finalist
“You’ve just got to be open to God and open to HIM writing your story”
On Gokey’s new album, Hope in Front of Me, the Milwaukee native delivers a potent collection of songs brought vividly to life by his warm, soulful voice. The project percolates with energy on such vibrant up tempo tunes as “Take it to the Limit” and simmers with emotion on such tunes as the compelling title track where he sings “I know in my soul no matter how bad it gets, I’ll be alright. There’s hope in front of me.” For Gokey, those words are more than just lyrics to a great song. They define his life and underscore his mission to reach others with hope and entertainment. Those words might seem mutually exclusive to some, but Gokey knows the value they have combined.
Today We speak with Danny just as his new single “Hope in Front of Me” hit #1 on Billboard’s Contemporary Christian Charts. In our conversation, Danny opens up about his faith, American Idol and the death of his wife, Sophia as well as his family and now wife Leyicet. He also shares intimate times with struggles and victories with his belief in God.

Sophia’s Heart
sophiasheart.org
The creation of Sophia’s Heart Foundation was inspired by the life of an extraordinary woman whose love for children overflowed and touched the lives of countless others. Sophia was a very outgoing woman who,
despite her heart condition, remained full of optimism, energy, and selflessness. During her vibrant and meaningful 27 years of life, she relayed the importance of meeting the needs of children emotionally, spiritually, and mentally.
After her passing, the mission began to develop her legacy, and to share the heart she possessed, through a living continual demonstration of her love.
Sophia desired to be the mother of a large family. Although this was never realized in her lifetime, the love she had for children could not cease from existing. Her husband Daniel felt the pressing need to pass along the love they both felt for all children, and thus he became the vision for Sophia’s Heart Foundation. He hopes the number of children they are able to reach through his vision will be larger than they ever imagined.
