Heavy Metal Faith and God Damn Evil – Stryper’s Michael Sweet | Episode 104
Podcast: Play in new window | Download
Today’s special guest is Stryper’s Michael Sweet.
Let’s a second to talk about Walmart and commas. Stryper’s God Damn Evil is banned from Walmart stores.
Why? Because of a comma
From an article on ccmmagazine.com found HERE
“Expressing concerns over the album title, leading national retail chain Walmart has refused to carry chart-topping rock band Stryper’s upcoming 10th studio album, God Damn Evil, available April 20, 2018, from Frontiers Music SRL. Several Christian retail chains have also objected to the title and declined to carry God Damn Evil in their stores.”
Come on guys, this album is full of messages of hope, faith, love, and the salvation of Christ. Albeit with growling, screaming, and serious guitar shredding. The title and song is actually a prayer for God to save His people from evil. The problem with the title is that it’s missing a simple comma. If it were “God, Damn Evil” there is no problem
Michael Sweet is the lead singer for Grammy nominated, Dove award-winning metal rockers Styper. This is Michael’s third time on the show.
Michael and I talk about:
- Stryper’s new project God Damn Evil and it’s controversial title
- How the way he expresses his faith has changed over the years
- What drives him to take on so many projects
- Grace versus taking up the fight when necessary
- Having a blast on his tour with John Schlitt in South America
There’s a bonus conversation about at the very end of the show where we talk about the faith of other rockers. You’ll hear names like Journey, Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osbourne and more
